Soldier On’s Pathways Networking Event recently held in Adelaide, has enabled over 20 veterans /family members to secure upcoming job interviews. With 60 Soldier On participants attending and making professional connections, the night was deemed a great success.
The South Australia Pathways Networking Event held on May 6th was hosted by new Soldier On Pledge Partner SACARE at their Broadview head office, in a space they call the Warehouse. The lofty, high ceiling industrial space enabled Soldier On to welcome 60 Soldier On participants and 10 partner organisations. The bright artwork and open areas created a warm and relaxed ambiance for the networking event, enabling many connections to be made.
“It was a fantastic event, you never know who is out there – particularly the Defence partners. Such a wealth of opportunity and knowing that employing a partner supports a veteran or serving member means a great deal to us.” – SACARE, host of Adelaide’s Pathways Networking Event
Pathways Networking Events are all about assisting Soldier On participants to secure their future career – helping them to make vital connections and new career pathways. Soldier On participants are serving or ex-serving ADF members, and their family members. If you are serving or ex-serving, events like these give you the opportunity to be introduced to veteran-supportive organisations.
Soldier On Pledge Partners have all made a public commitment to supporting veterans and their families – they recognise the high-level skills acquired by those in the ADF and by Defence family members. Many of the Pledge Partners may also be actively recruiting.
Soldier On’s Pathways Networking Events give people the chance to connect, network and learn more about potential employers, as well as other support services available to serving and ex-serving ADF members and their families. The Adelaide event enabled attendees to find out more about prospective employers, with around 20 Soldier On participants securing upcoming job interviews at the event.
Service dog Amma and her veteran human were the first to arrive, setting the scene for an inclusive and welcoming event. Captain Sutherland and the team from 7RAR Army Soldier Recovery Centre also stopped in, providing plenty of soft drinks to compliment the coffee and tea provided by our hosts. Several children accompanied their serving and ex-serving parents who commented on how well the 3-6pm timing suited their mid-week commitments. Games provided by Defence Health and activities with Kookaburra Kids enabled family-friendly fun and new professional connections to be made.
Representatives from Soldier On Pledge Partners including Soldier On Platinum Pledge Partner BAE Systems Australia, SAAB Australia, AMW Professional Services, Northrup Grumman Australia, Agile Mining, Australian Ocean Logistics, AeroPM and 4th Harmonic representatives met with current and ex-serving ADF members and their family members to discuss employment and training opportunities. Soldier On Education Partner Hessel group and representatives from the wider ex-service organisation community also attended including Defence Health, Kookaburra kids and Open Arms.
This was the first Pathways Networking Event in South Australia since the 2020 lockdown due to Covid-19. Many positive connections were made at the event, with feedback about how lovely it was to finally be able to create such a meaningful meeting place and reconnect.
