Education Veteran Scholarship Program announcement

Soldier On announces New Veteran Scholarship winner

Soldier On is delighted to announce that First Choice College has awarded a Veteran from Soldier On’s Pathways Program with a scholarship to study a Diploma cost-free at First Choice College.

The new initiative was designed to enable a serving or ex-serving Veteran or family member to achieve their educational goals and find new pathways into long-term meaningful employment. First Choice College invited Veterans and their families to apply for the opportunity to secure a scholarship for a fully-funded Diploma course of the Veteran’s choice.

The College received a large number of high-quality applications, but one stood out from the crowd;

“First Choice College is pleased to announce Alexander Hering as the first winner of the Solider On, ‘New Veteran Scholarship Program’.”  Sarah Bray, Business Development Manager at First Choice College announced.

“There were so many wonderful entries, all with their winning attributes individually, that it was so difficult to choose, reading each of the stories re-emphasised why we are a huge supporter of this program. Helping the Veteran transition into their next stage of the career is something we are honoured to be involved in.”

“We are pleased to offer Alexander placement in the BSB50215 Diploma of Business, and we wish him well with his new career,” Sarah Bray from First Choice College added.

Alexander dedicated 35 years of his life working within the Australian Defence Force, before deciding now was the time to take the first steps towards his new life outside the military.

New Veteran Scholarship Program winner Alexander Hering

Ivan Slavich, Chief Executive Officer of Soldier On said; “Congratulations to Alexander Hering! We are delighted to announce Alexander has been awarded a Scholarship for study at First Choice College. Soldier On thanks Alexander for his service and wishes him all the best for his course study and future business career.

“Soldier On works with a number of Veteran-supportive Education Partners including First Choice College. Our collaboration is helping to enable Veterans and their families to secure new education opportunities and helps to create new pathways into employment,” Ivan Slavich added.

The initiative offering a fully-funded course arose from Soldier On’s Education partnership with First Choice College, as part of Soldier On’s Pathways Program which provides free employment and education support to serving and ex-serving Veterans and their families.

On receiving the good news about receiving the Scholarship, Alexander said; “I am very grateful and honoured to be chosen to have this opportunity to be able to do a course with First Choice College.

It’s a great opportunity to be able to transition from my military career and undergo the course of study and self-improvement. As I look to the prospect of going into a business of my own, doing a Diploma in Business Management will help me enhance the skills I have already got through my career in Defence and outside in the private sector.”

Alexander first connected with Soldier On back in 2018 when he attended a coffee catch-up in Newcastle, to help access support for his wife. 3 years on, when Alexander was ready to consider his own future post-service career intentions, he reached out to his local Soldier On Pathways team in Adelaide (where they were now living), to find out about future career possibilities.

“The Pathways program is a good opportunity for any Veterans to move on from life in the military which is for some quite daunting. This has become a stepping stone to begin a course which would normally be for some a big step to undertake;”  Alexander explains.

Soldier On has been very helpful not just to myself but my wife Julie as she also had received a scholarship from Soldier On. She has moved leaps and bounds since her first contact with Soldier On and her help with Julie.

I would recommend all Veterans to contact Soldier On for advice in transitioning, personal development and Pathway to the future outside of Defence,” Alexander added.

Soldier On’s Pathways Program is delighted to partner with First Choice College for this exciting Veteran Scholarship Program and we thank them for their generosity.

Applications for the First Choice College Scholarship Program are now closed.
